Blauwe Boulevard – City of Hasselt

At the developer’s request, CityD has carried out a visitor and footfall survey to get a picture of the regional appeal of the inner city. This shows that loyal visitors to Hasselt inner city come often, stay for over 2 hours and above all spend a lot of money. We also observe that as of driving time in excess of 20 minutes, Hasselt is suddenly faced with competition, a lot earlier than used to be the case. The municipal administration is more aware than any other that Hasselt’s assets need to be fully capitalised on and that the city should certainly not rest on its laurels. On the contrary, the city needs to rediscover and renew itself, just as other regional trading centres such as Maastricht, Liège and Eindhoven are already doing. This needs to be done to increase regional appeal and lengthen the amount of time people spend. The Quartier Bleu project can help to fill this role but the work is of course not over for Hasselt…
